Version 1.0 — Published October 2026
Quick Answer
Carry: printed admit card (2 copies), original photo ID, 2 recent photos, black ballpoint pens, watch, transparent water bottle. Arrive 90 min early. Last 60 min at center = seat location, hydrate, washroom, one-liner flip, 4-7-8 breathing. Inside exam: 90-second rule per question, flag and move. No bio-breaks mid-paper. Post-exam: no MCQ discussions, no online answer-key.
Why This Matters for NEET PG & INI-CET
Exam day is where months of preparation either land or fail. More candidates lose rank to preventable exam-day mistakes than to content gaps in the final week. The most common losses are: late arrival, forgotten ID, wasted first 5 minutes on a hard Q1, no bio-break plan triggering mid-exam distraction, and post-exam doom-chatter which erodes mental state before the NEET PG prep that follows.
INI-CET 2026 is on Sunday November 1, 9 AM to 12 noon. The admit card typically releases 7-10 days prior at the official AIIMS INI-CET portal. Confirm your exam center, slot and session as soon as the card drops — centers can be far from the city you expected, and you may need to arrange travel and lodging.
This article walks through everything mechanical about exam day — packing list, timing, inside-the-hall routine, section strategy, snack and water plan, mental reset tactics — so you can walk in on autopilot and let the content do the work.
The Night-Before Protocol (Oct 31, 2026)
Pack by 9:30 PM
Use a transparent file sleeve for documents. Pack the following and verify with a written checklist:
- 2 printed copies of admit card (color, A4, do not fold through the photo)
- Original government photo ID — PAN or Aadhaar or Passport or Voter ID
- 2 passport-size photos identical to admit-card photo
- Black ballpoint pen x 2
- Analog wristwatch (verify if permitted in your center's instructions)
- Transparent water bottle (verify permission)
- Hand sanitizer (small bottle)
- Tissues (small pack)
- Light snack for pre-exam (dates, biscuit, banana)
- Face mask (if required at center)
Place the packed bag at the front door and photograph it. Keep the phone photo as evidence of what you packed.
Lights out by 10:30 PM
Avoid screens from 9:30 PM. Flash the one-liner sheet for 20 minutes if you must do anything content-related. Do NOT attempt a new topic, a mock, or any MCQ app session.
Pre-set two alarms (phone + manual clock) for 5:30 AM. Keep the phone in another room if you have a habit of scrolling in bed.
If you cannot fall asleep, do not fight it. Lie flat, close eyes, do slow belly breathing. Rest with eyes closed yields 60-70 percent of the recovery of sleep. One sleepless night does not ruin your paper — anxiety about not sleeping does.

What NOT to Carry
- Mobile phone (deposit in locker or vehicle)
- Smart watch, fitness band, calculator, Bluetooth device
- Any study material (books, notes, flashcards, MCQ app on tablet)
- Food inside the hall (unless explicitly permitted)
- Jewelry beyond minimum (large metal items trigger metal detector)
- Scarves, hats, caps (unless religious — declare at entry)
- Backpack with electronic items
Minute-by-Minute Inside the Hall
Minute 0 to 1
Settle at seat. Three slow deep breaths. Place pen, water bottle (if permitted), watch within reach. Place admit card as per invigilator instructions.
Minute 1 to 2
Read instructions on screen or paper. Even if you have memorised them, do not skip — negative marking policy, section break structure, and marking instructions occasionally change edition-to-edition.
Minute 2 to 5
Start Q1. Read carefully. If you know it in 30 seconds, mark and move. If you do not know it in 90 seconds, flag it and move to Q2. The classical AIIMS trick is a hard Q1 — do not get stuck.
Minute 5 to 45 (Block 1)
Work steadily. Target 54 seconds per question average, which gives you a 54-second buffer at the end of each 50 Q block (54 x 50 = 2,700 sec = 45 min; some questions take 20 sec, others 90 sec, averaging out).
Use the 90-second rule: if you cannot pick an answer in 90 seconds, flag via Review-Mark and move. Returning with fresh eyes often reveals the answer in 30 seconds. If you encounter a cluster of hard questions, do not panic — paper difficulty varies within blocks.
Block Transitions
Blocks 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 are the moments to:
- Straighten posture, release neck and jaw tension (hold 5 sec, release).
- One slow breath, 4-7-8 cycle if needed.
- Sip 20-30 mL water if bottle is permitted and you need it.
- Mental cue: fresh block, fresh focus. Do not carry forward frustration from previous block.
Note: INI-CET blocks are time-locked. Once a block ends you cannot return. In the last 5 min of each block, review flagged items of that block only.
Last 5 Minutes of Final Block (11:55-12:00)
- Review all flagged items with your gut.
- Do NOT change confident answers (changing confidence-driven answers to doubt-driven answers typically drops accuracy by 10-15 percent).
- Leave no question blank on INI-CET MD/MS — the -1/3 marking math means an educated guess with even one option eliminated is net-positive.
Section-by-Section Pacing Table
| Block | Questions | Time | Average per Q | Reserve for review |
|---|
| 1 | 50 | 45 min (9:00-9:45) | 54 sec | Last 5 min |
| 2 | 50 | 45 min (9:45-10:30) | 54 sec | Last 5 min |
| 3 | 50 | 45 min (10:30-11:15) | 54 sec | Last 5 min |
| 4 | 50 | 45 min (11:15-12:00) | 54 sec | Last 5 min |
If you fall behind on Block 1, do not try to make up all time in Block 2. Instead, raise the flag-rate (flag anything you cannot answer in 60 sec instead of 90 sec) and tighten over 2-3 blocks. Trying to sprint one block to catch up usually drops accuracy.
Snack and Hydration Plan
Breakfast (6:00 AM)
Familiar, light, protein-moderate.
- Example 1: 2 slices whole-wheat toast + 1 boiled egg + banana + 1 cup tea or coffee.
- Example 2: 1 bowl oats with milk + 1 banana + 1 cup tea.
- Example 3: idli + sambar (2 pieces only) + 1 cup coffee.
AVOID: fried food, heavy curries, new restaurant food, high-fiber (unexpected GI motility), excess spice.
Pre-exam snack (8:00 AM)
Small energy top-up if hungry.
- 3-4 dates
- Or 1 oatmeal biscuit
- Or 1 banana
Water
- 200 mL on wake-up
- 150 mL with breakfast
- 100 mL at 7:30 AM
- 50 mL at 8:45 AM (final sip before hall)
Avoid big gulps right before entry. Big fluid loads trigger urge within 60-90 minutes.
Inside hall
If a transparent bottle is permitted at your center, take 20-30 mL sips every 30-40 minutes. Not big gulps.
Mental Reset Tactics
If you encounter a hard section
Trust the paper design — hard clusters are offset by easier ones. Flag and move. Do not spiral.
If you feel panic rising (common at Q10-20)
Pause 10 seconds. Pen down. Three slow breaths — inhale 4, hold 7, exhale 8. Visualise the one-page one-liner sheet you reviewed. Resume.
If you blank on a topic you knew yesterday
Normal under exam stress. Flag, move, return. Blanks resolve when working memory refreshes.
If you make a silly mistake (realised later)
Resist going back aggressively. Note it mentally, keep moving. One wrong does not derail the paper. Spiralling into perfectionism does.
If you feel physical discomfort
Posture reset. Shoulders down, feet flat on floor, jaw relaxed. 10 seconds. Resume.
After the Exam
Immediately after (12:00-12:30 PM)
- Submit material as instructed. Retrieve phone and belongings.
- Walk out without engaging in MCQ discussion. A smile and a nod suffice.
- Hydrate, eat a small snack. Call family.
For the rest of Day 7
- Do NOT open the online answer key.
- Do NOT read WhatsApp group messages discussing questions.
- Do NOT compare your "feel" of the paper to anyone else's.
- Light lunch, nap, light walk, dinner with family.
- Celebrate quietly — you have done the exam you prepared for.
Day after exam
- Rest. If you have NEET PG prep continuing, give yourself 2-3 days before resuming full-intensity study.
- Review your mock-performance notes to inform NEET PG final prep (not INI-CET post-mortem).
High-Yield One-Liners
- INI-CET 2026 is Sunday Nov 1, 9 AM to 12 noon.
- Carry 2 printed admit cards + original photo ID + 2 recent photos.
- Reach center 90 minutes early.
- Final washroom at 8:45 AM; last sip of water at 8:50 AM.
- No bio-breaks during the 180-min paper by design — train for it.
- Minute 1: breathe. Minute 2: read instructions. Minute 3: start Q1.
- Classical AIIMS trick is a hard Q1 — flag and move if not solvable in 90 sec.
- 90-second rule: cannot solve in 90 sec, flag and return.
- INI-CET MD/MS marking is +1/-1/3; eliminate even one option = net-positive guess.
- Fill all 200 answers on INI-CET; blanks are more expensive than calibrated guesses.
- Block transitions: posture reset, 1 breath, sip water.
- Last 5 min of each block = review flagged items of that block only.
- Do NOT change confident answers to doubt-driven ones.
- Post-exam: no answer-key check, no WhatsApp group discussion.
- 4-7-8 breathing (inhale 4, hold 7, exhale 8) resolves acute panic in under 2 min.
Common Mistakes
- Late arrival. Entry gates close 30-60 min before exam start. Underestimating travel time is the single most common cause of missed exam.
- Forgetting original photo ID. Photocopies are not accepted. No ID = no exam, no refund.
- Getting stuck on Q1. Hard first question is intentional. Flag and move within 90 sec.
- Mid-exam panic without reset tactic. Candidates lose 5-15 min to anxiety spiral. Pre-trained 4-7-8 breathing resolves this in under 2 min.
- Post-exam answer-key doom-check. Depletes mental state before NEET PG prep resumes. Also unreliable — early answer keys often have errors.
